Creative Design Specialist

Position:              Creative Design Specialist

Assignment:       Full-time (12-month maternity leave contract)

Reports to:         Director, Communications and Marketing

Pay rate:              $34,000 – $40,000

Start date:           September 11, 2017



Reporting to the Director, Communications and Marketing, the Creative Design Specialist takes a leadership role in the development and execution of external and internal promotions designed to support the Centre's identified revenue objectives and customer service requirements. Ensures brand consistency throughout all visual communication, expressing Abilities Centre’s mission and goals through identifiable voice and aesthetic, and establishing a significant and differentiated presence in the market that attracts and retains loyal customers (members, clients, guests).


Main duties:

  • Create visual design pieces for promotions and marketing (print material, presentations, videos, online graphics etc.) while maintaining consistent brand, image and tone-of-voice
  • Contribute to the fundraising goals of Abilities Centre by aligning and integrating all community programs, special events and fundraising programs with the Centre's brand marketing strategy
  • Assist with Abilities Centre marketing campaigns with departments’ sales targets
  • Monitor market trends, research consumer markets and competitors' activities to identify opportunities
  • Support the various program, departments and special events offered at the Abilities Centre
  • Work cross-functionally with sales and customer service to develop in-house strategy for better communication, retention, and execution. Ensure the highest level of customer service with all community stakeholders
  • Cultivate a member-centred environment through exceptional customer service
  • Establish rapport and maintain effective relationships with members, staff, volunteers and community partners
  • Foster a work environment that values and encourages teamwork and empowerment
  • Attend staff meetings as required
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Graphic Design, advertising or related field
  • Minimum 1 year experience with a design management/supervisor position.
  • Experience with  sports and/or recreational programs an asset
  • Knowledge and experience with Graphic Design tools and print production (Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Knowledge and experience with social media and content management systems
  • Knowledge of WordPress is an asset
  • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Knowledge of accessibility and accommodation issues an asset
  • Dedicated to customer service that exceeds expectations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Effective team player with positive attitude, whose interactions demonstrate accountability, authenticity, and collaboration
  • Results-oriented, demonstrating great initiative, and contributes to a work environment that values and encourages innovation
  • Able to manage multiple demands through well-developed organizational and time management skills, and able to work independently without close supervision
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills with a proven ability to establish rapport with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
