Senior Communications Coordinator (2 positions)

The YMCA of Northern Alberta is seeking motivated individuals to execute graphics, website, and social media content involving promotions, communications, and branding.  These positions support our Child Cares, Health, Fitness and Aquatics Centres, Community Programs, and Housing Initiatives in Edmonton, Wood Buffalo, and Grande Prairie.

The positions will focus on these primary areas:

  • 1) Graphic Design (50-80%): use InDesign and personal creativity/skills to develop and implement high-quality visuals across all print mediums (bonus points for Photoshop and Illustrator);
  • 2) Website Design (20-30%): content creation/updating and SEO development/optimization;
  • 3) Social Media Design (20-30%): improve and strengthen digital communications strategies through hands-on graphic and content creation while backing current and future social media platforms.

The positions will focus on these secondary areas as needed (training available):

  • 4) Event Design (5-20%): creating support and promotion materials, including installation and takedown;
  • 5) Photo and Video Design (5-10%): basic working knowledge of NLE video editing (preferably Premiere).

Wage: Full-time hours @ $20-23/hour starting

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate communications, help desk requests, and scheduled promotion plans;
  • Influence the design of graphics and online content as determined by YMCA strategic priorities;
  • Follow ethical and accepted communication practices and ensure that our YMCA standards are met;
  • Maintain relationships with various suppliers and ensure that all visuals adhere to brand guidelines.

Qualifications:

Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration

  • Post-Secondary education in Graphics, Marketing or Communications or equivalent work experience;
  • Creative portfolio including samples of InDesign, website, and social media design and content.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Experience with event, project, anti-spam law, and supplier management;
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, and website SEO and CMS;
  • Facebook, Twitter, Google Ads, YouTube, and Instagram;
  • Knowledge of web page and print practice as well as universal design principles;
  • Be able to manage competing and evolving priorities – position requires strong organization, the ability to work independently, handle numerous projects concurrently, and work under pressure to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to use or learn cameras, sound equipment, and video cameras for events.
