CBC Yellowknife is looking for a self-starter who loves to tell stories... all kinds of stories. The North is in transition.  We are seeing the effects of climate change, through crumbling roads and buildings. We're seeing a rise in the rights and power of indigenous groups. And, we have lots of "characters", who make great stories. There are good opportunities for learning and travel. We believe in helping reporters do their best work while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. 


Your role

As a Producer of CBC’s Northwest Territories multiplatform news coverage you will be in charge of planning, organizing and producing daily news and current affairs content that engages the audience and reflects the NWT in all of its diversity.


Your responsibilities will include working closely with the Senior Producer on assigning and overseeing staff and freelancers to effectively and efficiently cover the stories and issues affecting the people of the Northwest Territories. This position will have some pan-Northern responsibilities and involve significant contributions to and social media, as well as radio and television.


Please note the schedule for this position is from 1:00 pm to 9:45 pm.


We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • University degree or the equivalent in communications or related fields.
  • Seven years’ solid journalistic experience of which three must involve work in radio and/or television broadcasting.
  • Strong digital skills, including writing, editing and story packaging.
  • Knowledge of social media, especially Facebook.
  • Relevant experience in radio production.
  • Strong broadcast writing skills.
  • Creativity and curiosity.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work quickly and to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven leadership abilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent interpersonal relations.
